I have IBS C and right now I am having a bowel movement everyday. It has taken me a year to get to this point, but I'm here. I can't put my finger on one particular food that you can eat to relieve constipation. It is EVERYTHING in your diet. First thing is (thanks to Mags2003) you must dring PLENTY of water. I have to say that this is the number one key. I have to say one thing that I eat everyday is a small bowl of spaghetti with minimal sauce and a chocolate muffin. This is great for soluble fiber and the one serving of fat that you should have per day. For breakfast I use some of Heather's recipes. If I don't have time for that I eat an English muffin, a banana, and lots of water. In the middle of the afternoon I have a turkey sandwich everyday with some fruit. I use many different recipes when it comes to dinners. I suggest some of Heather's and also some fat-free and low-fat cookbooks have a lot of recipes that can be altered just a little to be IBS safe.
I have to say that when I am extremely constipated and nothing seems to work, I ease back on my food intake a little and drink more water than usual. I look at it like a time when my bowels can catch up to what I have eaten without having to deal with anything else. Now, when I say a break I do not mean a day or even half a day. I just mean eat just as many meals, but just half of what you would normally eat. Except for when this happens, I eat plenty of food to keep healthy and nutritious.
These are just my personal tips. They may not make any sense or maybe make perfect sense. I have to say that I have never felt better. I can say that I am probably feeling better than I did before IBS. I never thought that I would be able to say that. It's pretty much all thanks to Heather. I hear a lot of people on this forum say they have just bought Heather's book and want some advice. The best advice you can get is in your hands. The trick is to use the book and apply the information and recipes. It WILL work.
GOOD LUCK!!
