I've never enjoyed any benefit from taking a fiber supplement (void of psyllium) and today my dietitian said that psyllium could actually provide a benefit/symptom management for IBS-D. He wasn't guaranteeing it and said that it would be trial and error but his reasoning is that it absorbs water and increases the bulk of stool. However, my own research also found that it also "shortens passage time through the intestinal tract as well as softens stool." These sound like very opposing effects and I wonder if it's worth it?
