Since slippery elm tea produces "mucilage", can this in turn be food for intestinal bacteria and cause excessive gas and pain? My special needs daughter has IBS-C and we also feel fructose malabsorption, gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance. Also when in the most pain is when she also expels alot of mucous. She doesn't tolerate probiotics and haven't been able to find any supplements that she tolerates. I thought the slippery elm tea maybe would be soothing to her but wondering if it would have the opposite effect since it produces a "mucliage" and wondering if this produces a bacterial food source? For soluble fibers she tolerates rice and potatoes but any soluble fiber supplements give alot of gas/pain and wondering if it could be related to that mucilage that they also create.
