Take a look at this http://www.helpforibs.com/news/newsletter/bluecorn060904.html#askheather where Heather talks about soy potentially causing gas and bloating. In summary you may be able to tolerate it but need to start slowly to build up a tolerance.

Before I knew that I tried drinking a bunch of soy milk in cereal every morning, and had a lot of bloating and pain in the afternoon as a result. I can tolerate a little soy, haven't tried building up my tolerance though I plan to once I sort out other parts of my diet. I do eat small amounts of soy in Luna bars for example and think I do OK with those (they might still cause a little gas; I'm not sure).

With the rice milk, I wonder if the rice milk you tried is made from all brown rice? Rice milk (and rice ice cream) is the safest thing I can find, for my stomach. The ingredients list of the rice milk I drink says the rice is partially milled - if the kind you tried doesn't say milled at all, then maybe that's why it didn't work for you.

I've seen others post on this forum that they have been happy with almond milk. I haven't tried it myself. But given my experience with soy milk, if you can't tolerate rice milk, my suggestion would be trying almond milk first, or start with very small amounts of soy milk. Good luck!
