Most medications have IBS triggers in the tablet, capsule or IV form. It may be the reason some of your medications are not working for you. For example prednisone has milk derivitives, decadron (anesthetic agent used commonly in surgery) has egg. Flagyl has milk, numerous medications have wheat. Soooo...depending on your level of sensitivity and the preparation of most medications you may be taking a hidden trigger. Maybe most folks have already learned this the hard way like we have. My daughter with IBS had surgery recently and I asked her ENT specialist to assign a pharmacist to her case who would review each possible medication she might receive pre, intra and post procedure. Of the 30+ medications that she might receive (counting emergency medications in the code cart) 15 were removed from the safe list. This experience was a real eye opener for us. We now review ingredients of all medications with a trusted pharmacist before getting any prescriptions filled. Good luck!
