It is my guess that these cases are not chemically-caused depression. Depression runs in my mother's side of the family, and I know for a fact that anti-depressant meds are a huge help for the people who actually need them. My mother used to be suicidal, used to experience major panic attacks, and had a full nervous breakdown before finally being put on meds (this was the mid-80s). She is now doing much better. Anti-depressant meds literally saved her life.
