Can you list what it is you do eat, when you're able to? I'm wondering if you could have some undiagnosed food intolerances.
I've been seeing a dietician who told me that a large majority of the IBS patients she sees have one or more intolerances to dairy, wheat and/or eggs. In fact, the first thing she does when she gets a new IBS patient is tell them to IMMEDIATELY STOP eating those three things for a few weeks to see if they feel better. She's amazed at how many people feel much better after doing so. Wheat is one of the top culprits, and it's something that a lot of IBS patients fill up on for the fiber! (And please note, you can have a wheat intolerance without having celiac disease, so a negative celiac test doesn't mean you aren't wheat intolerant.)
I'm not saying food intolerances cause IBS, but a lot of sufferers have them in conjunction with IBS.
Also, probiotics are very important as well. There are several different kinds to choose from. It's really a matter of trial and error until you find one that works best for you. I've been drinking kefir lately and it makes me feel wonderful. Kefir is a cultured milk that has significantly more cultures than yogurt does. And it doesn't make me sick, despite being lactose intolerant.
Not eating is NOT the answer. Even when my symptoms are acting up, I force myself to eat because if I don't the cramps will be significantly worse.
You WILL find what works for you, but it will take time and experimentation. Hang in there!
