A little about Ukrainian culture:

� Whenever you visit someone you bring something
� Whenever someone visits you always serve something, at least tea. If you have nothing to go with tea, just give plain tea.
� Always take your hat off when you enter a building
� Never whistle in someone's home. They say it will bring bad luck.
� Always take your shoes off when you enter someone's home.
� Ukrainians are taught to be polite and not greedy. They're taught not to accept gifts or food the 1st time someone asks them. If you ask them 2-3 times then they will accept. Example: A friend of mine was wondering why Ukrainians kept offering her food when she said "no". She was getting frustrated because she didn't know the culture.
� Ukrainians are always outspoken and straight forward. They don't smile unless they feel like smiling. They were taught that if they take a picture for a passport with a smile, they won't be taken seriously and they won't be able to find a job or etc.
� Ukrainians are offended when people call them "Russians". Millions of people were starved by Russians and they weren't allowed to speak Ukrainian language until they became independent in 1991. They speak Russian because they have no choice but that doesn't make them Russian.

Just thought I'd share a little history/culture.
