Hello heather, I would just like to tell you how this diet has changed my whole life. Up until now I was a complete mess trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I was always trying new diets to overcome my IBS-D, although I didn't know that it was that. I knew I was having all sorts of problems with food going straight through me and started to develop pains all over from what I now think was just malabsorption. My skin was a mess, I had psorisis all over my scalp, and my nerves were shot. I was the family joke, always trying new diets to overcome the problem, because I knew the answer lay in the food I was eating. Many times after eating food at night I would have to sit up to cope with the gas, belching and cramps. I was eventually send for a colonoscopy as my grandmother died of bowel cancer. The result was unremarkable, with the doctor saying it was IBS. I asked him what I should do, other than keep a food diary, maybe see a dietician. His answer was 'you don;t need someone to teach you how to suck eggs' unquote. He saw me to the door with no follow up, no help whatso ever. I of course got worse. The healthy salads made me worse, plain meat and veg did as well. I by chance came across your website. What a revelation. All my symptoms listed, AND with helpful advise that made sense. I purchased the books and have never looked back. I do make mistakes sometimes, but it is short lasted and I get back on track.
I have some questions I hope you can answer.
1. I made baked salmon with asparagus the other night. I stupidly didn't read the recipe all the way through and left the asparagus stems whole and served it with the salmon and potatoes I had cooked. I sat up all night belching and had a bad episode the next morning. Can just five asparagus stems do that, even though I ate potato first. Does this mean I have to be very careful of all insoluble fibre. I also still cannot eat lettuce in any form. Is it possible to puree this as a green drink, as it has so many vitamins.
2. I have not been able to eat fresh fruit such as peaches, berries etc without disastrous results, now cooking it in your recipes, I can and I am enjoying it so much. Is this because I am rendering the skins and acid more acceptable to my gut? I cannot eat fresh strawberries and still haven't tried making a sauce of these yet. I hope I will be able to enjoy these as well.
3. I cannot, and I have tried everywhere, buy soy cream cheese or soy parmesan in Australia. Can I substitute this with any other safe product that with give the same results?

Thank you once again for saving me. I am just about to head of for a holiday. I must admit I am a bit nervous about coping with the food situation while I am travelling. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could just pull into a safe IBS restaurant chain, like the chain McDonalds has created, and enjoy our travels. Maybe one day.
thank you again Heather for the effort you put into helping others,
Margy
