Hi all
I have just been prescribed Amitiza for IBS-C. I saw my GI the other day to discuss the results of my course of Rifaximin. I am less bloated, but the C is the worst it's ever been. This is my 6th day with no BM, even with Miralax, and I feel quite sick. I know my C is really bad when my family stops at our favorite sandwich store, and the subs look as edible as a block of concrete to me. Bleahhhh!
Some of the side effects of Amitiza are scary, and two that I already have after my second dose are (1) nausea (which I had before the medication) and (2) aching lungs (a frequent but not dangerous (?) side effect).
The lack of appetite is welcome-I need to lose 15 lbs or so, and can't seem to do it for all the exercising I can manage with this IBS-C, and feeling so fatigued most of the time.
Syl-any info? I've looked up the medication, but still don't understand how a medication that causes more fluid to be released into the intestine could affect the lungs? I had better start drinking a TON of water even if I don't feel like it at all.
My GI told me to stay off the internet, and stop looking up all these "IBS conditions" that I think I might have. The bottom line, according to him, is that I have abnormal bowel motility, and the bloating is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria which isn't being pushed though my bowel, but rather sits there undisturbed, building up and fermenting everything that comes along. So shuddup and take this pill, and another course of Rifaximin!
Yes Dr. Of course. You're right. I was almost ashamed to be kissing ass so submissively during my appt because I'm so desperate for help...
