My definition of an "attack" is an episode of extremely painful gas and bloating. This usually comes on after I've eaten something I shouldn't have, unintentionally of course. It also tends to happen more in social situations - haven't quite figured that out yet. My abdomen is noticeably swollen and it hurts to sit, stand, lie down, everything. Eventually, I'll start passing the gas (usually have to take some kind of antispasmodic) and will feel better once the bloat goes away.

The lower abdominal discomfort you speak of could be from the incomplete evacuation that is a classic IBS symptom. How long have you been on the diet? Are you using an SFS? Do you take anything for C?

Sorry Lisa - what is an SFS?

I've only been strictly on the diet for a few weeks, though I have tried to follow it generally for a couple of months. To be honest it's not helping a great deal - I can eat something one day with no problems, then eat the exact same thing the next day and get cramps and gas from it. Simple 'safe' foods like applesauce give me nausea and gas but I have no problems eating cheese or yoghurt, even on an empty stomach. So it's taking me a long, painful time to get through the diet and it's guidelines! Because my symptoms never seem to get better or worse, it's making it hard to identify trigger foods - thus my original post.

Occasionally I take psyllium husks to help with the C but I don't suffer badly from it - I usually have at least 2 or 3 BM's a day, straight after breakfast and then as the morning goes on sometimes they seem to get softer.

I have so far been putting all my symptoms down to anxiety and depression as I haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason over the last 2.5 months. I'm on week 4 of my AD's and improving slightly, so hoping for more improvements to come!

What doesn't kill you makes only makes you stronger; I just hope this doesn't actually kill me.
