Difference between IBS-C and plain constipation?

Some quick history before my Q: I have been up & down, left & right, back-to-front etc since about late Jan/early Feb this year. Was all started by what I think was food poisoning, some D, incredible pain and cramping and staying very close to the BRAT diet as that was about all I could manage. After a couple of weeks the pain/cramping settled and I alternated between normal/loose/pellet stools, though never chronic C or D. By early/mid March my anxiety/depression and upper GI symptoms had a chance to show themselves. Was getting a lot of nausea, epigastric pain but not heartburn and for the life of me could not pin it on a food or food type. So I started on AD's about 3 weeks ago, Lexapro (an SSRI), went through all the usual horrific starting side effects including some D but am now feeling generally a lot better. Anxiety/depression starting to look like they might become manageable, upper GI problems gone (aside from occasional nausea which I put down to anxiety) but seem to be back to C now. Not chronic as I am having anywhere between 1-3 BM's a day.

Trying to be careful with my food, plenty of SF and slowly adding in IF piece by piece (btw, I ate a SKINNED pear the other day which seemed to give me *incredible* gas, what was that about?!) but all that seems to be missing is the pain and bloating. Aside from the episode of gas with the pear - which I might add was also the first day I started taking psyllium again, related? - there has been almost no gas (problematic or increased anyway), no bloating at all and no pain as such, just a dull sort of ache that I would associate with my period or something. I know that pain/discomfort from IBS can be mild - but isn't some cramping/discomfort associated with normal constipation anyway? I am wondering if the AD's are causing my constipation and that the discomfort I experience is just a result of that and not IBS related? Any ideas or feedback?
