Do not lose hope!

I haven't visited these forums for many months because my symptoms improved and I no longer needed the sympathetic ear I had here.

I take trimebutine (modulon) 100 mg 3x daily, and prevacid for GERD (if you burp a lot, consider it. i know it's expensive).

What I found really helped me more than anything else, was..... fibre!!!

Simple store-bought psyllium fibre in gelcap form (i don't like the stuff you mix with juice, it's like eating a rug).

Try it. I do 4 caps in the morning and that's all.. my stools are practically normal, I can drink coffee and beer again and cheese (and oh, god I missed cheese).. course my weight's gone up (IBS does help you lose weight when you can't keep it in!). And I can eat apples whole again (they used to cause serious pain!).

If psyllium causes flatus or bloating, try Heather's stuff. I haven't yet, but I figure because it's still fibre, it'll be analogous in function but you might tolerate it better.

So anyhow, though I'm not around much anymore, my heart goes out to all of you. Remember that nothing in life is hopeless.

Oh and try the modulon in conjunction with the fibre.. modulon does help. I assume you can get it in the USA now (it was only available here in Canada before). I don't think dicetel does anything, and read a scientific study from pakistan that was done that says basically that it's ineffective.

Once again, don't lose hope. I know the pain, I know the shame of IBS and the inability to talk to anyone about it because they don't want to hear about your bowels.
