I've been taking the Acacia fiber for just under a month now and have gradually worked up to about 11g (5 tsp) per day right now, split evenly between breakfast and dinner. I've also been taking antidiarrheals consistently every day for about 4 years now, previously Imodium, but lately primarily Lomotil (2 in the AM) supplemented with Imodium (1 at dinner).
I'm wondering if the Acacia fiber undoes the effect of antidiarrheals, or if they work somewhat hand in hand? I realize that it's supposed to regulate bowel movements, but because too many antidiarrheals can cause constipation, will the fiber help to prevent that? The big problem is that I can't stop taking the antidiarrheals to see if the Acacia is helping to stabilize me because, on the chance that it doesn't work, I basically cannot go to my job that day due to the diarrhea. (As a side note, I've been on Heather's diet for about 2 months, and have been on the hypnosis CDs for 3 weeks, and on the few chances I have had to test the waters by not taking antidiarrheals, I have found the diarrhea returning almost instantly.)
Another question I have is how to best split the Acacia supplements up in the day. Anyone have suggestions? Equal dosages at breakfast and dinner, or maybe 3 smaller dosages at breakfast, lunch, dinner?
And finally, for anyone who takes antidiarrheals, have you found a time of day at which they work most effectively? I take mine first thing in the morning before food or anything, and then I usually take a smaller amount with dinner.
Thanks all!
