My doctor did confirm that I had IBS even though I was diagnosed from another doctor 14 years ago during the pregnancy of my son. He only went by my symptoms at the time. I had 7 polyps removed (all ok) and told me that it could be that it was causing even more pain when I had an attack. (Not that you could have polyps, colon cancer is in my family.) I put off having this exam for many years and I am glad that I had it done. I don't know if it can actually diagnose IBS but it rules out other conditions that will eliminate it down to IBS.
