If you have a history of colon cancer in your family then I suggest having a colonoscopy. I put it off for many years because my uncle has a colostomy bag (he had colon cancer) and I didn't want to know if that would be me one day. I had my exam done last week and my doctor removed 7 polyps. All biopsies came back good. But just the relief of knowing finally. My doctor was able to confirm my diagnosis of IBS and said that the polyps could have even made the pain worse when attacks happened. I am not telling you what to do, but I highly recommend consider having this procedure done. Don't let fear keep you from it like it did me. Good luck.
