Augie, on recommendation of the nutricionist, I did the test CDSA Comprehensive Analysis Test (2.0) plus the parasitology test which is done by an independent lab in the states (although I live in London). The lab Great Smokies Diagnostic Lab - the link is http://www.gsdl.com/home/assessments/findsystems/gastro.html The testing is not that cheap, but the report does contain a lot of information.
The nutricionist clinic link is www.ibs-solutions.co.uk
I received the report of the CDSA this Saturday, the day message was posted, but was so relieved to see something concrete, instead of "clutching straws", thought I would let you all know
So I am/will be doing the following:
1) following an exclusion diet based on the results of the blood food intolerance tests
2) following an anti-candida diet - no sugar, no yeast, limit white foods (i.e white bread) and include garlic and olive oil. The yeast was reported by the CDSA test.
3) taking a drug for the specific parasite detected . Apparently it is hard to get rid of, so will be re-tested a month later
4) taking a probiotic, -lactobacillus gg from Nutrilink due to the very low amount of good bacteria shown on the CDSA report. Apparently the probiotic should be taken for a couple of years as it can take a long time to replenish the gut flora
5) taking a natural agent, Black walnut tincture, for the harmful bacteria at pathogen levels reported in the CDSA report. The report includes a list of antibiotics and natural agents to which the bacteria is sensitive to. In this case, the practicioner chose to avoid the anitbiotics due to the candida and the low level of good bacteria.
6) taking DigestAid from Biocare (for 2/3 months) which is a digestive enzyme as the report showed there was some dificulting in digesting carbohydrates
7) a multivitamin and mineral supplemant
Basically in terms of diet, I am following the first 2 points, do not worry about low-fat (the report shows that I absorb/digest fat well), or IF.
I am just starting on this new approach, based of facts this time, so I am very hopeful. I donīt know how long I have to follow an anti-candida diet, except that it is for at least 2 months.
This has been tailored to my particular diagnosis, made by the practicioner, based on the CDSA report. Everyone could be different.
Truly hope this may help, the many of you who are suffering from "IBS"
I will let you know of the results of this approach , in a couple of months from now, or may be before
