What do I do?

As an IBS-A, I've been on Heather's diet for over 2 months. My motivation was that doctors don't help and I need to work to survive financially. Here is what happens. I go on the strict diet of bread, water, potatoes and applesauce for 3 days. My stomach calms down from the diarrhea and nothing happens. Each day I try to add in some veggies, chicken, tuna, etc. I even have a very small salad on occasion. It turns out that after 4-7 days, I have no movement at all (totally "C") and then a bad attack of "D" occurs. After a day of that, I start back on the bland bread and water stuff only. Fortunately for the past 2 weeks, the day that the "D" strikes has not been a workday, yet this can't go on forever. I had hoped for some regularity. I do take Benefiber in addition, but I'm wondering if this is the best I can expect. In my earlier life I had only "D" and am not used to having "C" so it's weird. I don't have bad symptoms like some of you do with "C" - no gas, bloating or terrible problems. However, it makes me so nervous because I know a bad "D" attack will arrive at any minute and I might not make it to work. I don't know what to do, unless this is as good as it gets.
