It makes me feel so happy to read the conversations on these boards and know that I'm not the only person in the world with IBS. Those without it just don't understand! We are a very sensitive bunch, and it's clear from reading these posts that we not only all have varying triggers, but our own triggers can vary from time to time.
The underpinnings of Heather's diet, as I understand it, is the soluble fiber concept, and I have found this to be absolutely right-on! Those who read my recent posts on the crohn's-ibs board know that wheat fiber is an absolute trigger for me (although my recent tests came back negative for celiac disease). It's the insoluble fiber, not the gluten. On the contrary, the soluble fiber foods on Heather's list of 'stuff we can eat' all work wonders for me. I stay away from white flour most of the time because of the glycemic index factor but turn to it on those days when I can't eat anything else. I cook the heck out of vegetables, even though I can tolerate raw fruits. I can tolerate yogurt and cheese, but not milk (even lactose free milk). But those soluble fibers are my salvation!
