Here is how I began to think about vagus nerve stimulation: I man I know has a son with epilepsy and this boy has had to have vagus nerve stimulation to control his epileptic seizures. In reading about this treatment, I noticed that diarrhea was a side effect. I also remembered that one of my daughter's physical therapists performed cranial sacral therapy on her to affect change with the vagus nerve. So it seemed that it might be worth investigating vagus nerve stimulation for IBS-C and pain.

I know this is thinking "out of the box" but there doesn't seem to be anything "in the box" that is helping my daughter.

Did you read the online report of the pain dr. who treated an IBS-D patient with spinal cord stimulation? It stopped the diarrhea immediately.

I think that in cases of intractable IBS pain, there may be treatments worth considering through neurology/pain specialists rather than GI drs.
