Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Gluten Intolerance

I read the most recent newsletter and it reminds me of the disease I was recently diagnosed with. It's called Lymphocytic Colitis.

I was originally diagnosed with IBS and my GI Doc tried all sorts of IBS specific remedies which didn't work and seemed to make things worse. One of the things was taking extra fiber capsules. After a while he said I needed to get a colonoscopy to eliminate other diseases and to make sure it was 100% IBS. Well my colon was just fine, but luckily the Dr took a Biopsy. Normally this doesn't get done if the colon looks ok. This is when I found out that I had this disease. It's really similar to other diseases in that a lot of people diagnosed with this have a gluten intolerance. I had accidently come upon this realization when I started doing a low carb diet, I noticed that my symptoms of painful cramps and diahreha went away for the most part. It turns out it was the gluten/wheat that was causing me problems.

To be honest I was quite suprised that this disease has no mention on this website as it has great similarties to the symptoms of IBS.

There is a more general term for this disease called Microscopic Colitis. Another type of MC is Collagenous Colitis.
