Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | What could cause stomach not to digest foods??

For approximately a year I've had problems with my stomach not wanting to breakdown, digest, or pass foods for up to a week while during my monthly cycle. I see my new GI in April. I've talked to both my GYN and PCP about this and they can't seem to help.

I've started taking digestive enzymes and so far this is the first month in about a year that things "seem" to be moving but still on the slow side. It's like one day I woke up and my stomach quit working.

I love to go to salad bars once in a while and mainly eat greens and fruit. I do add a little pasta or something as a filler and I get really "D" at that time. Otherwise I tend to be regular. During my monthly cycle is when everything goes haywire and I tend to become more "C" at that time. I'm trying to find a balance in foods and continue my fiber which I do great on as long as I stick with it.

I quit taking hormones first of December having having taken them for about 6 months because I'm Perimenopausal and have been pretty symptomatic with those symptoms alone. Since I've quit taking them, it has greatly improved areas of nausea, vomiting, and insomnia which I haven't suffered in 3 months. Though my Dr.'s were working with me on this and trying to find a good balance, I think my body wasn't at a place where I deficient enough for it.

I've not had any problems with reflux in many years but in the past week I have felt that too familiar feeling in the esophageal area, especially the past few days. I have about 3 weeks before my GI appointment. Do I wait it out or call my PCP for meds? I would hate to take something and during an exam have it mask a possible underlying problem.
