I've seen 3 different GPs now, none of whom have been helpful. One said I was constipated (I wasn't) and prescribed a laxative. The next one said I had IBS, without doing any tests or even touching me, and told me to drink a couple of glasses of milk a day and eat All-Bran. I don't drink milk, but tried All-Bran, which made me violently ill. I then did some internet research, found Heather's site, and bought her book becuase it had some wonderful recipes, and I was attracted by her enthusiasm.
Have been to the GP again to try and get tested for various things, but they say it's not worth it and my problems must be due to stress because I'm a student. They said this to me when I was getting migraines, and it turned out I needed glasses as a kid, so I'm slightly dubious. I shall go back and pester them again, but I'm scared. When I saw the doctor last week all she said was 'it must be IBS' and 'most people's symptoms disappear when they get the reassurance that there is nothing wrong', and offered me an NHS leaflet on IBS, saying to eat more fibre.
Sorry to whinge, but I've not had positive doctor experiences. I'm not very assertive, so maybe that's why they tend to brush me off. Plus I have an officaial IBS diagnosis from this previous doctor, so they see that in my notes and assume it must be correct.
