Heather, I am a 27 Year only male who has been diagnosed this last year with IBS (Diarrhea type), however I have had IBS symptoms off and on for the last 10 years, it was recently that I felt bad enogh that I had my primary doctor refer me to a gastroenterologist, who after many tests determined I had IBS. My greatest trigger seems to be stress, I work in a high stress job and also am in the process of building a house, majorly stressfull. I am taking Zoloft (100 MG), Propranalol, and a probiotic for my stress and IBS symptoms as well as immodium on a daily basis for the Diarrhea. Prior to IBS I was also diagnosed with an Overactive bladder condition about 5 years ago, and the same as the IBS, my Urologist can't find anything wrong with me either. Right now I feel much better than I did 8 months ago, but both my IBS and Overactive bladder affect me on a daily basis. Although both my Gastroenterologist and my Urologist agree my conditions are inter-related, they think most of my problem is stress related.
Have you encountered any research or information on the inter-relation of IBS and Overactive bladder in your research? I would be curious to know if you have any particular advise in regard to my situation? Not only do I always seem to be rushing to the bathroom to empty my bowels, I am always rushing to the bathroom to urinate as well.
BTW, I just recently bought both of your books and am finding them very informative, although I'm not sure if I can totally give up red meat or milk products, I'm trying to at least reduce my consumption and follow your other great advise.
Jim
