Soluble Fiber Adjustment Time

I'm considering trying soluble fiber soon. However, I'd like to try it sometime when I'd have time to adjust and see if I had any intolerances toward it. How long does it usually take the body to adjust to SFS's and how long would it take the body to react if there was an intolerance? Would I be affected the next day, immediately after taking it, or within a few hours? Does soluble fiber make you only have one solid bowel movement or do you have several throughout the day as you take it several times each day? Do the times that the BMs occur vary for each person or is there a universal time that people [who take SFS] have their BMs?
Thanks.
