Hi, again :)
I've noticed that a lot of people who have IBS also suffer with panic attacks, anxiety, fibromyalgia, and depression. I guess it's sort of a chicken/egg question of which comes first.
I began having severe panic attacks when I was 17; I'm now 40. They continue, although they are not very frequent. What has taken their place is acute anxiety. I feel like I'm wound up all the time; always on edge, irritable, and quick to snap. My body also aches all the time, my joints are sore, I'm exhausted and rarely have any energy. Gosh...I really am a mess, aren't I? LOL
My question/issue/problem is this - How do I find a doctor who takes all of this seriously? Is it just trial and error? Golly, I hope not. I find that most doctors, once they hear "anxiety," tend to attribute everything to that. The "it's all in your head" diagnosis. I'd love to find a doctor that could manage ALL the things that are wrong with me, but I'm not sure what to look for. Is there a specialty I should be seeking? I don't think I have fibromyalgia, but would a rheumatologist be appropriate? I'm at my wits end with this "take a pill and see how you feel" stuff. I want someone who knows what's wrong with me, listens to my concerns, doesn't think I'm nuts, and can treat the problems.
Am I looking for too much? LOL
