Thanks, all, for your responses.
To answer your questions: yes, I was checked for gastroparesis. Three times, to be exact, and I don't have the affliction.
I've tried Miralax, and it made me go to the bathroom regularly. BUT . . . after about 8 months, it started causing SEVERE cramps when I would take a dump. I played around with dosages, but any dose substantial enough to be therapeutic left me sweating in pain. It wasn't till I stopped the Miralax that I realized that it was worsening my nausea. My nausea was cut in half after I stopped the Miralax!
I also tried lactulose, which worked--and did not have the same side effects. However, I started developing cramps *after* going to the bathroom, and I was going to the bathroom fairly regularly. At least with the mag citrate, I can regulate how often I relieve myself--and therefore, how often I get cramps.
I tried acacia, but even that gave me cramps. I started at the recommended starting dose and ramped up slowly, then gave up.
I've also tried countless other fibers, supplements, and meds, including Zelnorm.
My problem: anything that moves stuff through my GI tract causes cramps and/or nausea.
Someone suggested exercise. I used to exercise a lot, but my fibromyalgia prevents me from doing anything vigorous or regular. (Many fibro'ers have IBS.)
Thanks again for listening, being supportive, and offering suggestions! What people have to go through on a daily basis blows my mind.
