Hi There. Finally I have found someone that has a similiar condition as myself. I have been diagnosed with IBS and having a redundant colon, or long loopy colon. This was diagnosed with a barium enema. I could not believe my eyes when I saw this X-ray, the loops were so obvious.
I have been told by various specialists to try every diet possible, I could not begin to list all the diets and supplements I have tried. My main problem is the constipation and sever abdo bloating and discomfort. The discomfort and bloating is so much better if I have a good bowel movement in the morning first thing. If I do not, I know that the rest of the day will be terrible and uncomfortable. So for me it is all about trying to be regular, it makes such a difference to how I feel. I have used Normacol plus for the last two years to help with my constipation as It is the only supplement I have found that does not make the bloating worse. I have read on several sites not to take this as it is insoluble fibre and not soluble and has a laxative in it. I started to take benefiber which is a soluble fibre and stoped taking normacol and sure enough I could not go to the toilet. Iam now taking the normacol and some of the benefiber to see what happens. I have also trialled charcoal tablets to help with the bloating, they do work but not for a sustained period of time, they only give me relief If I take them say once or twice per week when the bloating is bad. I believe that a low carbohydrate works best for me in helping with the bloating, but then has the effect of contributing to the constipation. Everyone tells you not to eat this and not to eat that on all these websites. I have decided that we are all individuals and are different. I have just started eating weetbix again, they definetely help me go to the toilet. Iam also trying a new digetive enzyme called digest ezy, it originates from the kiwi fruit.

Let me know if any of this helps and how you get on.

Pedro
