This all started through my gastroparesis support group the BellyBusters. The names included are members from that group.
National Digestive Motility Diseases Awareness Day
October 21, 2004
October 23 is a Saturday due to leap year, so the new date will be October 21 since it's a Thursday!!! Mark your calendars!!!
Note addition to post also:
Get the HHS to declare Gastroparesis, Pseudo-obstruction, Colonic inertia and Achalasia
as DIGESTIVE DISEASES
Make sure we still include the same contacts, but contact Tommy G. Thompson since he is the secretary of HHS (Dept of Health and Human Services)
www.hhs.gov/ (GP is not even listed and it affects 3,000,000 Adult Americans),
Getting congress people to direct Tommy Thompson to "write in the language" to declare these as digestive diseases could be our goal
Why: Getting the HHS to formally declare these as Digestive Motility Diseases (they are now considering declaring obesity as a Disease) HHS is a division of the FDA, that's why it is newly added to the group!!!
Then the benefits are:
Patients can get disability because it is a recognized official disease
Gov can clearly communicate to the NIH to fund research
Private insurance companies will not argue over coverage of treatments since the government HAS acknowledge that this is a set of digestive diseases--insurance companies don't want to be sued over discrimination issues.
Why not use this awareness day for more than just GP awareness, we got that at a federal government level and national media (FDA and Washington Post). Our Congress people know the article exists due to where it was published, and Kindra let us know the FDA knows since her letter got the answer)?
We can make this OUR day to get EVERYTHING we deserve:
TREATMENTS AND DISABILITY WITHOUT QUESTION which in connection with GPDA working on FDA, they will have to listen to us, WE ARE THE PEOPE IN "We the People"
We now can concentrate on more important things knowing that GPDA is on the job,
You are more than welcome to contact me at GPersUnited@comcast.net for more information.
Bethellen Dilcher (Coughran)
We are concentrating on the members of the Digestive Diseases Caucus.
