Hi All! Our local YWCA is offering a new class this session that is Sivananda Yoga. Does anybody know anything about this class? I was wondering how if differs from just Yoga. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Sarah

Sarah,
I haven't heard of this but I would maybe give them a call to enquire.

I think the main thing when choosing a yoga class is to make sure it is one that is gentle enough to cater for all levels. My teacher does this, providing basic postures for new students and extension for those of us who have been going longer.

Also, yoga has become really trendy lately and there are a lot of different types. Many of them are becoming more of an exercise class than anything else and I don't believe that's real yoga.

Real yoga should have a mind, body, spirit connection. Relaxation of the mind and the use of the breath really gives you so much more than just doing an exercise like when you are at the gym or something. It changes your whole way of thinking and I believe this is why it can be so beneficial to IBS. It teaches you to relax and breathe properly throughout your day. It's amazing what a difference that can make to your stress levels which in turn impact on the IBS.

Anyway, I sound like I'm on a bit of a soap box here but I really think for Yoga to help you fully it should have that mind/body/spirit connection.

Good luck with it.
Kerrie
