New to yoga, need something 10 mins or less to do in the morning

I just recently started yoga...again. I tried it a few months ago but was only doing the poses shown on this website, so I didn't stick w/it. I'm really trying to stay w/it this time. I even ordered the AM/PM yoga dvd that everyone talks about on the boards (haven't recv'd it yet). But it says the AM part is 20 mins. I don't have that kind of time in the mornings, unless I want to get up at 5:30 (and I don't). Does anyone have any suggestions of shorter sessions that I can do in the morning? I have plenty of time in the evening so I'm not worried about that. Also I'm not very flexible and not really in the best shape, so I need something relatively easy on the body, until I can get used to it. Thank you!

I can fully understand your problem. I ordered Gental Yoga for beginners from Koch Vision. I have not used the DVD yet, but I have watched it and it seems to be very good. I am not very flexible, so I decided to do it right after I exercise in the evening. I also have Yoga Zone. Since I can't do it in the AM, the PM will have to do for me. I am sure I will get result. I hope this helps, and good luck!

I assume this is the Rodney Yee/Patricia Walden DVD? The AM yoga routine is actually a little less than 20 minutes - you can skip the introduction after you've viewed it once. I don't have time for yoga in the morning, either. I do the AM yoga routine after getting home from work, and it seems to work just fine. I only do it about once a week, though, as I have a few yoga videos and I like to rotate through them.
Good luck with the yoga!

Thanks for the info! I'm going to try doing just a few poses in the morning right after I get out of the shower, then do the AM routine when I get home, and the PM before bed. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again!

A few sun salutations is a nice way to start the morning. Maybe 2 sets, plus a few minutes of seated meditation?

Um, not to sound stupid, but what are sun salutations? I only know the positions shown on this website, so I have no clue about anything else. I did search the boards but couldn't find anything that said exactly what they are.

Oh sorry! Sun salutations is what the first half of the AM Yoga program is - Rodney Yee does some variations on it, but it starts off pretty classically.

Here's a diagram of it: Sun Salutation - you can also just google for "sun salutation diagram" because there's lots of them out there.

So basically, my suggestion is to do the first 5 minutes and last 2 minutes of the AM yoga.

It's a bit slow doing yoga without a video or instructor at first, but it gets way easier with practice. And, of course, the more times you do the video, the easier it will be to remember exactly what you do after you get into Downward Dog...
