What would you substitute nutritional yeast flakes for in a recipe?

My partner can't eat yeast. What would I substitute the nutritional yeast flakes for in a recipe, anyone know? I wouldn't care if it was a small amount, but for the 'velvety cheeze sauce' it's a large amount....

Soy cheese? I've never tried nutritional yeast, to know how "cheesy" it tastes, so I'm not sure how much to substitute.

I should stop trying to answer vegan/vegetarian questions.

thanks, atomic rose. That would probably work. And I guess in a bun recipe, I'd just substitute more flour, long as there's baking soda.

Dude, that could be a vegan question, but this strict vegetarian has never messed around with nutritional yeast flakes in her life!
