I have a lot of recipes that I would like to share and wonder if anyone knows if it is possible to scan them and put them on the message board instead of having to type them all in.
Thanks,
Joan

I think to do that you need special software that can read the words in the photo and turn them into a word processor file. Some scanner software does that... you could look into it. Our old one was supposed to but it never worked right.

Wow! I'm sure my computer doesn't do that! It will take me forever to enter them all. Guess I'll do my best. Thanks Kree!

Try scanning the pictures and saving them on your computer. Then go to http://www.imagepilot.com/ which is a free host for your pictures. All you do is upload the file straight from your computer, as you would attach a file in an e-mail, and voila, it gives you a URL to your "image" (in this case it would be the scanned recipes)

Then you could post the URL in your post and everyone could click on the link to your recipes!!!!!!!

Hi Joan, See if your scanner will scan in OCR (optical character recognition) mode. That will scan text and you can save it into a file that will be in text form, not as a graphic. You'll still have to go in and edit some but it will make it so much easier than having to type them all out.

OCR... that's the term I was trying to think of!

No, it's not that sophisticated of a scanner, but thanks anyway. I love sharing recipes with you guys, but all that typing is so time consuming.

My mistake Kandee. It was pointed out to me that I do have OCR. My next problem is that I can copy, but it won't let me paste on the message board. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Joan

Hmm, possibly it needs to be in another format but I wouldn't think that would affect how it saves on the clipboard. Can you "paste" it somewhere else, like into a new Word or Works doc?

Joan, you can OCR scan it but when you do tell it to go to Word, then you have a Word .doc that you can edit in Word instead of the default which would be a .rtf (rich text format)...Or let it scan into an .rtf default, then open in Word to edit it. RTF has an alignment problem so you may find that things will not come out lined up as they were in the original document.

But, and I think this was suggested, you can scan it as a graphic .jpg file and post it as a graphic.

Does this help at all?

I certainly understand you not wanting to type them out all over again.

I just used imagepilot.com to add a picture to my posts. That is a really helpful website. I hope that it worked correctly. Thanks again!

my pic on here using that site. It worked but it stretched my picture making it far too wide. Do you have any solutions for that?

It stretched my picture some too, but at least it is on there. I will try playing around with it and see. If I come up with a solution, I will let you know.

Crop your picture BEFORE you post it to imagepilot.com.... make sure it is SQUARE!! (i.e. 267x267 pixels) because to post on THIS board, it will resize it to a 80x80.... if it is not square to begin with then it will not be proportioned correctly and stretch.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just cropped it without thinking about the squareness. I'll try that and see how it goes. Thanks again!

That seems to have fixed the problem. Need to be sure and tell Ibsgrl.
