Is Gatorade ok to drink? It's not carbonated and has no caffeine.

I love Gatorade...it's such a nice change from water or tea (esp. now that the weather is warm) and the clear flavors (I like orange and lime) haven't got anything objectionable in them at all. But I suspect some out there may be sensitive to the "glucose-fructose syrup" used as a sweetener, so listen to your own body.

I LOVE gatorade as well. When I lived in the dorms, everyone made fun of me cuz I would go to Costco and buy huge crates full, and when you live in a dorm you barely have room for a bed, let alone crates of Gatorade! Lol.

I've found Gatorade to be a very safe beverage for me...and the electrolytes are always nice, I really go crazy on it when I get sick/dehydrated. But everyone's different -- I know for a fact that Powerade makes me sicker than a dog! Go figure!

One question regarding drinks -- Other than tea, what are some safe drinks for IBS that people can recommend? I tend to get extremely thirsty, especially in the warm months of AZ (I go through whole cartons of OJ or Ocean Spray in 1-2 days at home). Water tends to make me bloat, and throws me into cramps on empty stomachs when cold. I love lemonade -- when in restaurants I'll drink 5 glasses (literally -- I'm such a lush ) Sooooo I was wondering what others drink for "on the go" type drinks. I like smoothies and other homemade concoctions, but I'm thinking more "gatorade-type" beverages that I can drink in between classes and while at work. Plus it would be great to hear what others drink besides water and tea??

TTFN,

If you want to save some money on "Gatorade-type drinks," I have a recipe for a homemade sports drink that might be worth a try. It would at least be cheaper than Gatorade and more flavorful than water. Though I haven't tried it myself....

It's from--where else--Dr. Weil's website (ironically, the only things he says that I *disagree* with involve the treatment of IBS!). Anyway, here's the link: web page

Funny that you say that, my mom was reading something from him yesterday. As she was reading stuff off like what to eat, I was saying, nope that's not safe, no maybe for some people. She was laughing, I sent her Heather's website today. She likes reading up on it so she can be aware of what's going on with me.

The link TessLouise gave is invalid now - you get routed to Dr. Weil's home page and I couldn't find the recipe. I imagine it's there somewhere, but I couldn't locate it. I looked around on the Internet and found places where it had been reproduced in other Websites. Looking at those, I figure this is how Dr. Weil's original recipe looked. If anyone actually made a copy when the link was active and has a different version, please post it.

Dr Weil's Sports Drink

Bring to Boil:
2 cups water
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

When Cool; Add:
1/2 cup strained orange juice

And put in your water bottle, then go forth and workout!

I'm really shocked, you are telling me that gatorade is actually a safe drink to consume?
I workout and could really use gatorade, but have been avoiding it for years out of fear that it was artifically flavored.
I thought for sure it had HFCS, you're syaing glucose fructose is NOT HFCS and thus it is edible?

This is an ongoing dispute. I think glucose-fructose indicates there is more glucose than fructose in the compound and so the usual cautions about HFCS do not apply. Not everyone on the Boards agrees with this - some people think glucose-fructose still means excess fructose and should be avoided.
