Hi everybody -

I thought I'd talk to you "lurkers" out there. We're really glad that you like to visit our IBS boards, but we'd also like to hear from you. I know that people with IBS, especially D's, have problems with anxiety and frustration. Actually, posting to the board will help because when you get others to respond, it seems to lighten your load to know that you're not alone in all of this. At least, that's what I find. And, I actually look forward to seeing what other people have to say and what their responses will be. I really look forward every day to logging on and "chatting" with others who know exactly what I'm going through and talking about. No blank stares when you tell someone you have IBS!!! You guys already know what it's all about. The people here on the boards are like my second family.

So, don't be shy or embarrassed about posting. We've heard it all before and we all just love to help. When you consider there are more than 500 people registered for Heather's IBS boards, there aren't that many who keep us posted. I'd say about 150 people have posted out of that number and out of the 150 who have posted, most of them lurk. It sure would be nice to hear how you're doing and if there's anything we can help you with.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sharon

Hi Sharon,
Thanks for the encouragement to those folks who are "shy". I am not one of the shy ones, but I think I have two kinda valid reasons for not writing much. It's just been plain crazy at work, and second, all of you are far more eloquent in your postings than I could ever be. I enjoy reading them far more than writing. I have read many of the posts. They include information about one "posters" embarassment at a Bible study, all of your wonderful recipes (e.g., applesauce muffins, artichoke and chicken breasts to name a few), and Concrete Ange's "clueless" parents.
I will continue to post, especially when I think I have something worth reading. I will continue to "preach" the word about eating for IBS and Heather's wonderful books. Those two books put me on the road to recovery after surgery and a long bout w/ c-diff.
And another doggone good reason not to post is that I haven't got a picture yet! Just kidding!
Anyway, I am glad you are all there!

Sue - thx for the comments about posting, but your writing is truly eloquent and I find whatever you say interesting, especially this post! Don't sell yourself short, sweetie. Besides, we just love to hear from you IBSers, no matter what you have to say!

Am I being dense, or what? what's c-diff? DUUUuhhhh!! LOL

Sharon,
No, you are not dense. And thank God that you have never heard of c-diff. I cannot give the exact medical name, something like clostidium difficile...or c-diff. It's a bacterial infection one acquires after a long hospital stay that is generally accompanied by HUGE amounts of antibiotics administered via IV. The results are 10, 20 or more bouts of nasty diarrhea PER day. To me as an IBSer, this kind of diarrhea is worse than anything I have experienced.
After three rounds of anitbiotics to be rid of the c-diff, I found Heather's diet. The diet, I truly beleive in my heart, helped to calm the colon down so that the nutrients could be absorbed. All of the good flora is flushed out w/ the antibiotics and the diarrhea. If the diet had not worked,I was then ready to try the donor fecal injection (that's not the right word, but the right one escapes me).
That's enough about that topic...
Thanks for your encouragement. And btw, we are probably the "senior" member on the Board.
Sue
