Since being diagnosed with IBS I have avoided all recipes containing margarine and I have noticed a lot of recipes popping up lately with margarine as an ingredient.
How is everytone tolerating it? I'm scared to try it and worry about the fat content too.
Heather I have been dying to try out your lemon bars but can't bring myself to buy the margarine!
Does anyone know what the fat content in the lemon bars is?

Hi Kerrie,
What lemon bars are you referring to? Is it my recipe? Lemon Bars If so, I believe they have only 19% fat.
Have you heard of Soy Garden? It's marvelous and 100% non-hydrogenated (the real bad fat)! However, it's still fat, so you have to be real stingy with it.
If you make the lemon bars, let us know how they turned out.

Bev is right, non-hydrogenated margarines aren't any worse than cooking with canola oil! You just have to use the same caution you would use with oil or any other fat. But it's nothing to be scared of... give it a try!

Thanks guys,
I guess I will work up the courage to try it. I'm not sure if we have soy garden in Australia - I haven't seen it.
I do know there are a couple of soy maragarines on the shelves but I haven't looked to see if they are non-h or not. I will have to check.
