Hey there!
I desperately need to lose some weight as I'm getting married in July and the weight has jus been creeping on over the last 18months. I've put on a stone and a half without really noticing! Anyway... I desperately need ideas for stuff I can cook so I don't fall back on high-cal favourites. Any ideas for recipes? I was going to try and do the Weightwatchers diet, but I'm not sure I can fuss that much over how points I eat atm. Life is too stressful as it is!
Please, please help. If I don't do this, I'll have to buy a new wedding dress!

Hey Linz!
I'm not sure how much a stone and a half is, but I lost 3 pounds last week just from watching my calories. I've been checking my weight on Sundays, so I don't know how much (if any) I've lost this past week yet. I found a program for my palm that lets me put in all these things (age, weight,if you want to lose/gain/maintain, goal weight, etc.) and then it tells me how many calories I can have per day. If I exercise, I get more calories I can eat for the day. I just enter everything in like a food journal, and it tracks everything for me.
Here's some past posts from Jules that may help: web page web page
The one about fitday.com I think is similar to the program I have on my palm (Diet Tracker), but it's free. Mine had a trial for a few days, and I REALLY liked it, so I paid the $9. I like the convience of carrying it around with me.
Oh yeah - also here's info on How Calories Work.
Hope that helps!

Linz, good luck to you! You should be able to find a TON of great dieting recipes on the recipe index, since they're supposed to be low fat anyway! I also posted this one for you. It's a family favorite!

I'll see what other good dieting recipes I can adapt from my mother's dieting days. Let us know how it goes for you!

Hi Linz,
I do the Weight Watchers diet and am allowed 20 pts per day.
Here are some of the recipes on here and how many points they are:
Anti-Depressent Brownies - 4pts per brownie Brown Sugar Banana Bread - 5 pts per slice Burgandy Chicken with Mushrooms - 4 pts per serving Fat-free Banana Bread - 2 pts per slice Gingerbread Muffins with Lemon Glaze - 4 pts per serving Honey Glazed Snack Mix - 4 pts per serving Lemon Chicken Soup - 4 pts per serving Lemon Pepper Pasta - 5 pts per serving Mushroom Rice Pilaf - 4 pts per serving Peppermint Fudge Cake - 5 pts per serving Sauteed Shrimp with Snow Peas - 3 pts per serving Sweet Tequila Lime Chicken - 5 pts per serving Will's Dreamy Lemon Rice Pudding - 4 pts per serving Zesty Shrimp & Pasta - 5 pts per serving
Those are just a few examples of the ones I eat all the time. It is hard trying to find low-point snacks that you can eat, but I always fall back on the baked tortilla chips (2 pts per serving) and salsa (0 pts).
If you have any more questions or need help figuring out points, let me know! Good luck in losing weight.

Linz, I found another old dieting recipe of my mom's that we love. I hope this helps!
Chinese Chicken (Makes 6 servings)
Ingredients: 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts 1 Tablespoon vegetable or canola oil 1/2 cup chopped onions 2 cups chicken broth 2 Tablespoons soy sauce 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1 cup thinly sliced carrot 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 cup thinly sliced celery 1 small green pepper, sliced (optional, we omit sometimes) 1 (16 ounce) can bean sprouts, drained 1 (4 ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained 3 Tablespoons cornstarch 3 Tablespoons water
1. Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces. 2. Brown chicken in oil in a large skillet, about 5-10 minutes. 3. Remove chicken and reduce heat. 4. Add onion and cook until tender. 5. Return chicken to skillet and add chicken broth, soy sauce, ginger, carrots and black pepper. 6. Cover and cook 5 minutes. 7. Uncover and add celery and green pepper. 8. Cover and cook 5 minutes. 9. Add bean sprouts and water chestnuts and cook 5 minutes more. 10. Mix corn starch and water together. 11. Stir into chicken mixture until thickened.
This is great served with white rice!

Good luck, Linz. I loved Weight Watchers when I was on it! I'm still a bit too unstable to go back right now (having some celiac testing, we'll see after those results!). Anyway, counting points isn't NEARLY the annoyance I thought it would be. It wasn't bad at all. And if you exercise, you get some points back so you can snack some more. I'm sure you have those recipes that you heavily depend on (we all do, don't we!?)-- figure out the points for those and then write 'em down so you don't have to keep looking them up.
By the way, Weight Watchers recipe books are totally worth the expense! There are some great recipes in there, and not too hard to make. It's worth it to stop by a local WW store just to buy the books, even if you aren't sure you're going to join. I live by those books and by Heather's.
Anyway, good luck to you.
