Gerry, don't be so hard on yourself. It's okay to feel sorry for yourself. I know I do! And I'll bet there are a lot of us here who do as well. We're all entitled. Just know that there will be good days as well as bad.

I too have a good man who takes care of me. We're lucky. Sometimes it just feels good to curl up in bed, turn up the electric blanket, and let our hubbies serve us peppermint tea.

I'm glad there's another old-timer out there besides me. Welcome, Gerry!

Oooh, Gerry, that's mean stuff. My grandmother had it, and she too had to give herself shots every day.

About that blood pressure -- you don't drink coffee, do you? Even decaf, perhaps? I drank it for 40 years, and 3 weeks ago Heather got me off it for good. I've felt a lot better since -- but the real plus for me was the fact that my blood pressure dropped A LOT! My doctor was about to give me blood pressure medication, but when I went in for an examination, he was shocked to see how much I had lowered it -- thanks to cutting out the coffee! SOOOO -- no meds!

It's really important to stick with Heather's diet strictly -- I "fudged" by having the coffee. I knew better, I just didn't wanna give it up. Obviously I was WRONG. Don'tcha hate it when that happens?!?

Acacia and Colonoscopy new

Hi Gerry,

I just started on acacia a few weeks ago. I wasn't taking in nearly enough fiber. I had been on only 2 capsules of Citrucel a day -- that's nothing -- so I started on a very low dose of acacia (2 teaspoons/day). Just recently I tried increasing it to 3 teaspoons/day, but I'm having some tummy problems, and I attribute it to the increased dosage -- apparently I'm not increasing slowly enough. You're up to 2 tablespoons a day? That's great -- and it's not too much.

I don't understand the IBS either. I don't think any of us do. I too took Heather's book to the doctor; unfortunately he was not impressed; he said anyone can write a book! That's the kind of GI I was dealing with -- I SOOOO need to change doctors!

Have you had a colonoscopy to confirm the doctors' diagnosis of IBS? If not, you need to have it done.

And, Gerry, there's no need to thank me for listening to you. I get help from everyone here, just like you. We're all in the same boat, with the same symptoms and all seeking the same answers. If I can help, I'm glad to do so!

Bev

Material Injection.from Reg.doctor.this was all last year.
the GI doctor was old an said I didn,t have IBS,but a spastic colon.but as soon as I walk into my reg.doctor office he said I see you have IBS.so who are you to believe.
I read Heathers book an I,m going back to my reg.doctor

Gerry, you have a cute sense of humor. Keep it up -- it'll work in your favor, Girlfriend -- AND keep you YOUNG!

I don't know why doctors do that, but they DO. As soon as they discover you have IBS, they show you the door. I hear that on this website so much -- it happened to me as well -- I think they don't know what to do to help us, so they boot us out the door and leave us to fend for ourselves. GRRRRRR

On the other hand, I have read one or two posts here in which people were helped by their doctor -- so we just gotta keep looking -- they're out there.

Your mother was very wise. Thank YOU!

Bev

P.S.: Spastic colon was the old way of saying IBS. Same-oh, same-oh.

P.P.S.: I too had to cut back on my acacia a little; I'm increasing my dosage too soon. I already told you that, didn't I? Groan. It's hell getting old, ain't it?!?
