Where do you find your ingredients?

If I've posted this in the wrong area, please let me know - I just joined the site.
I'm amazed by the number of great sounding recipes on here. I was diagnosed with Crohn's and UC last month, so while I don't quite belong on the IBS part, a friend with IBS referred me to here, and I had to look.

Just from browsing, it seems like some of the ingredients in the recipes aren't things I'd find in my regular grocery store. Do you need to go to places like Whole Foods or other more natural stores for some of your food? I live in GA and have access to several places that may carry what most view as "alternative" products.

Thanks so much - looking forward to all the good food on this site!

I heard about this diet from a friend with Crohn's; it works for all GI problems.
You don't necessarily have to shop out of the way, but if you want a good selection of dairy free products like ice creams and cheeses, it is worth going to a health food store or a supermarket with a large natural foods section (like where I work). All grocery stores carry some soy and rice milks now a days but are limited on soy sour cream, cheese, creamer, ice cream, frozen treats and that kind of thing. I don't think there are any other particular differences to this diet. Most recipe books and sites will have some gourmet ingredients here and there but those aren't IBS specific.
Generally this board is best for cooking questions and recipe information. Any diet questions can go on the main diet board along with all threads of IBS health and living really.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
