I don't think that would work. It would cut the flavor of the BBQ and make it watery. What if you just cut the BBQ ingredients in half.

Why do you want to cut the ketchup? I mean, is it HFCS, tomato, or something else?

I can't even eat half of these ingredients, so you're doing great! Tomatoes/tomato sauce is a trigger for GERD for me, so it's just an "occasional" treat and only a small amount. I miss it - I could live on spaghetti and marinara sauce, lasagna, you name it! BUT - I can' think of a substitute for ketchup since it is tomato based.... This is just off the top of my head, but can you do beef broth, add all your seasonings and thicken it with corn starch???? If you like the sweet/sour/BBQ taste - try adding some SF fruit preserves - i.e. peach - it will thicken it too... Sorry, Paula Deene just stepped out! - Dorothy

Well, you could try the mock tomato sauce instead of the ketchup but you might have to throw in some extra seasoning - maybe just a little more of the other flavorings in the recipe.
HTH.

I was thinking as I was reading the "She should use BBQ sauce!" Great minds think alike! You could also add very small amounts of water as the chicken cooks to dilute the sauce somewhat. Let us know how it works!
