I was just reading the recipe for the Jewel Bars from a past newsletter and saw the soy butter. Where can I find this? Is it in a tub? When I google soy butter, it comes up with soynut butter (a nice alternative to peanut butter). Any ideas?

Thanks!

The recipe mentions the brands Organic Spectrum and Soy Garden. I imagine what's available where depends on where you live. I use a brand called "Earth Balance Natural Buttery Sticks". I can find these at Whole Foods but one of my more mainstream grocery stores is starting to carry stuff like this, too. If you don't have a Whole Foods near you, try a Trader Joes. If you don't have one of those and your regular grocery stores don't carry any of these products, try a health food store.

Here's what Earth Balance Natural Buttery Sticks looks like: web page

If you can't find any soy margarine, I would be tempted to try making this with canola oil. It might work, it might be disastrous but it would be worth a try. The measurement would be different so you'd have to just knead until the mixture looked crumbly.

HTH.

Sydna - Earth Balance Soy Garden Natural Buttery Spread is found in the produce section of the regular grocery store where all the soy products are (cheeses, tofu, etc.) It comes in a tub and is extremely yummy. I put it in w/my rice when I cook it and it melts in the fry pan just like butter or margarine. It's great on toast, bagels or whatever you would put butter on.

Facts: in one tbsp, there are 100 calories all from fat. No trans fat, no cholesterol, 120 mg sodium, no carbs, no protein. Owned & distributed by: GFA Brands, Inc., Heart Beat Foods Div., P.O. Box 397, Cresskill, NJ 07626-0397. It's non-dairy, no preservatives and gluten free, 100% vegan, non-hydrogenated and it's Kosher!!! Couldn't find a website on the tub, but if you Googled "Soy Garden" you might come up w/it.

It's good to see you again. It's like old home week on the Recipe Board - Wind posted recently, too.

It was the same. There wasn't a lot of overlap between us but I'm a chronic old-post reader and you popped up a lot. I was actually shocked when I looked at your info and realized you hadn't posted 1000s of times. (I love your Chicken Chutney Mustard.)

Welcome back - I hope we see lots of you.
