Ok this is my second year making this and tell me please how do you get the Pecan filling on top of the sweet potatoe pie?? Also the pecan filling always overflows when I add it to the pie. Today I had a huge mess!! Any thoughts???

are you using a springform pan, or just a regular pie plate? we made the mistake of using a regular pie plate last year and it didn't all fit!! we bought a springform pan for this year.

No I used a regular pie plate. But that is because I made it with a real crust instead of the grahm cracker crust. Did the pecan topping stay on the top for you or sink to the middle?

I used a hand mixer for the filling to get it nice and smooth, yams instead of sweet potato (I don't know if that makes a difference), and let both mixes sit for about half an hour before I filled the pie crust. I filled the crust about 2/3 of the way with the filling and then very carefully spooned the pecan mix on the top of that. It stayed separate, but I think I actually like the flavor more when they are mixed together.
