Hello, Can anyone tells me what classifies as a fat free mayonnaise - I have used a vegan kind that has soy bean oil in it - Earth Island kind. Does anyone have a homemade recipe for one? Thanks. Feelinggood, Goderich, Ontario

A fat-free mayonnaise is one where the Ingredient/Nutrition label says:
Total Calories: whatever Calories from fat: 0
All fat - even "healthy" oils - are IBS triggers.
For recipes for homemade ones, take a look at the Recipe Index.

Thanks Sand. Like I say, I appreciate all the help that I can get. We do need some fats so what kinds do you use?

Canola oil to bake with and olive oil to saute and in salad dressing (be very cautious here - many IBSers cannot tolerate salads - I couldn't when I first started out - and it's super easy to get way too much fat if you use an oil-based dressing). I cook with soy sour cream sometimes and, of course, I get some fat in poultry and seafood. I also eat soy ice cream, which provides lots of fat - so, again, be very cautious here. I use Smart Balance Light margarine - it's dairy free but it's still fat, so be very - well, you know. I use low-fat rather than non-fat mayonnaise; I'm pretty fat tolerant now, although I wasn't when I first started on the Diet and I much prefer the taste of the low-fat. I just don't use gobs of it.
