Hey everyone. I found this recipe for cheese straws on the food network webpage. I actually saw this on an episode of the Paula Dean show. Of course, it was filled with fat, but I just had to try it with our adjustments Let me know what you think!
Zesty Cheese Straws
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at room temperature 1 pound sharp Cheddar, shredded, at room temperature 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter until light and fluffy. Add the cheese and mix until blended. Add the flour, salt, and red pepper, and mix to form a dough. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up the dough, then place it in a cookie press, fitted with a ridged tip. Pipe the dough in 2-inch strips onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to racks to cool.

Yes, and actually they're not too bad I used a block of cheddar rice cheese and 1 bar of Earth Balance "buttery sticks" (which are completely dairy free!). The dough came out a little dry...so i added a bit of water to the recipe. AND i didn't have a cookie press SO i just cut the dough into strips and twisted them...just for fun. They taste almost as good as the real thing!
