Hi - I got a new bread machine for Christmas!!!! Yipeee!!! Sorry - have been dying for one. I make bread - the hard way - evety week. Anyway, have some questions about the flour. All the recipes I see ask for cake flour - is that something we can have? I always use all purpose, unbleached white flour...I am guessing that is not the same. What are the differences? Thanks for help - can't wait to use my new machine!

Cake flour is fine. Cake flour is just a white flour with an ultra-fine texture. I think it's weird that your bread machine calls for it, but hey... whatever works, right? Enjoy your new machine!

I do bread machine stuff and participate in a bread machine list... most recipes call for bread flour- higher gluten content.. cake flour is LOWER gluten content instead... all purpose is middle of the road... gluten is what holds the bread together as it rises and gives it the texture...
do these recipes call for seperate vital gluton to be added or something? if not... please share a recipe and maybe I can help or I can point you towards a source for lots of good, tested bread machine recipes online.. many easy to adapt to IBS safe diet.. I'll post a few once I test them in my new machine after it arrives!

My recipes for my bread machine call for bread flour or cake flour and I use regular all purpose flour and it comes out fine....
