I was going to try Heather's Better than Cheesecake, but knowing my gang of friends, I'd be coming home with the cake minus the slice I ate, and I really don't need a potentially yummy cheesecake-like objects sitting defenseless around the house, if you know what I mean. AND, I'd have to hear about how much more delicious the real cheesecake another friend is bringing is.

So, other than dessert or pasta or potato salad, I'm stumped! Anyone know of something that is really good, safe, and not too exotic that my extremely unexotic friends might eat, too? THANKS!!

Personally, I'd probably stick with the dessert idea and make a Peppermint Fudge Cake. I make the chocolate-applesauce bread from EFI all the time - which is basically the same recipe, minus the peppermint and with spices added instead - and everyone I've given it to LOVES IT. The texture is awesome; nobody ever guesses that it's low-fat and vegan!

what about a turkey dog appetizer, similar to the one Angela posted.. or you could heat up a bunch plain displayed with different kinds of mustard.

Also, you could do swedish type meatballs with turkey meat and nobody would know the difference. Meatballs on toothpicks are always a hit at parties.

Heather's peppermint fudge cake. Easy to make and easy to please. If you don't think they'll like the peppermint, leave it out. It still tastes great.

How about this Artichoke Bean Dip ? I am going to make this for our New Year's party that we are going to. It sounds really good and you could serve it with pita bread.

So, I just made Shell's dip that Angela recommended. I sampled a bit, too, and whoo-eee! There will be no vampires around here tonight - I could've used a smaller clove of garlic. I like it though!

I'll be bringing carrots, celery sticks, and 2 types of crackers to go with it. Finding decent pita bread in this town is well-nigh impossible...and I didn't think of attempting to make fresh naan bread until just now.

Okay, I'm rambling and will stop shortly. Thanks for the suggestions!!
