So now that I finally figured out what it is, I can't find it. Can anyone tell me what it looks like - is it in a spice-type bottle, a shaker can? And where do I find it? I didn't see it in the spice aisle. And do normal grocery stores carry it or is this more of a Whole Foods sort of thing? Thanks guys.

Most big grocery stores will have it - most likely one of the Ginger People products. You can visit their site if you want to see what the cans look like.

It's generally shelved with the baking goods - somewhere between the chocolate chips and the pie fillings.

It's usually cheaper if you get it at a bulk food store or HFS. The stuff in the packages at the grocery store is always more expensive. I get mine in bags at a local menonite bulk food store and it's decently cheap.

I found the crystallized ginger at Safeway.... it was in the produce section with the other dried fruits...like to make fruit cake with. It came in a little 4oz tub like the pre made hummus comes in. It was only $2.29!

I've also seen it in the bulk section at the HFS...not sure of the price.

This is what I use. It comes in a square spice bottle-sized jar and I find it on the spice racks at my usual grocery store (King's Supermarket). The Website has a store locator.

Thanks guys, especially for the site with the store locator. There's a store here that should have it. Tried Whole Foods today, but no luck (unless I'm completely blind). I've bought the stuff in a tube before, but is that really crystallized ginger? Or just chopped up conveniently?

Well, my Crystallized Ginger says it contains ginger and sugar so you could check the ingredients on the tube and see if it's got both or is just ginger. I don't think the stuff I have would go in a tube. It's little chunks that are not really hard, but pretty firm - sort of the consistency of a jelly bean.

HTH.

You can also buy crystalized ginger online from either the Ginger People or Penzey's....
