Hi ya'll,

I have been having a really hard time getting home from work and then having time to make and eat dinner before I need to go out again, or go to bed!
I want to try some crock pot recipes (the one I want to try next is the Garlic Brown Sugar Chicken) but it says that it should cook for 6-8 hours. My problem is, I leave for work at 6:30 am and don't get home until after 5... Can I leave something cooking that long or will it overcook or dry out or something? 10.5 hours is a pretty long time...

Any suggestions?

Thanks guys!

Crock pot recipes generally actually produce more moisture, rather than make it disappear. So long as there's enough moisture to begin with, most things should be fine on low all day. At least, that's been my experience.

If you put it on low, you can leave it for like 9 - 11 hours at LEAST. You won't dry something out in the slow cooker. It's almost impossible. Here's my fav. recipe BTW: web page
I make the sauce and chop the onion the night before. Then in the morning, throw in the onion, chicken and throw the sauce on top and you're done!

Han, do you think your chicken would be good without the mushrooms? Mushrooms don't agree with me, and I'd love to try it!

Personally, I hate mushrooms and never put them in. So go right ahead and make it without the smushies. It still tastes wonderful.

I agree with everyone else that in most cases you would be fine and your food wouldn't dry out. However, I just bought a crock pot at my local Target that has a timer so you can set it to start at a certain time!
