different salts have different coarsenesses... table salt, sea salt, kosher salt, rock salt in that order.. so tehre is actually less salt in the same measurement of sea salt.. and its bigger crystals, so it might absorb differently.. hope that helps.

I plan to make this tonight...I'll let ya all know how it turns out.... I will be adding salad shrimp to mine and serving over white rice.

Rice Dream White Sauce
web page

2 Tbs. canola oil
1 cup Original Rice Dream
5 Tbs. unbleached flour
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1 cup water or vegetable stock
pinch white pepper

In a small saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add flour and gently stir for a few minutes. Bring water or stock to a boil and slowly pour into flour/oil mixture; whisk vigorously. Blend in Rice Dream, salt and pepper. Reduce flame to low or place a heat diffuser under the pan. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Adjust seasonings to taste. Sauce will thicken as it cools and is best served immediately.

Yield: 2 1/2 cups

Variations: For Indian cuisine; add 1 tsp. curry powder; for an Italian flair, add 1/4 tsp. each of powdered garlic, dried basil and oregano; as a cream sauce for fish, add 1 tsp. dried dill, 3 Tbs. lemon juice and 2 Tbs. capers.

Let us know how this works! I've been looking for a sauce to put over my noodles - let me know if you think it'd work for that.

I tried this llast night, it never did thicken up (maybe use more then 2 tbsp flour?) but it was still VERY good... as long as you serve it in a bowl you will be fine. I used the veg broth instead of water and it gave it flavor and even made it "look like" there was real butter melted in it....VERY GOOD!!

There is no iodine added to sea salt either.

Actually, iodized sea salt is available. I prefer the iodized kind.

Kate.
