Hi guys,
I really like the idea of having smoothies for breakfast/snacks, especially since I am really trying (not all that successfully to be honest ) to eat more fruit BUT I am allergic to bananas! Which sucks, 'cause I loooove bananas!
Is there anything else I can use instead of bananas as a smoothie base that would still be tummy safe?
Thanks guys!!

How about mango or papaya! I've never tried either one in a smoothy, but they're both soluble fiber so I think they would work.

Oooooh, I like mangos!! I think I like papaya, but I'm not sure. Hee hee, I can't remember. Mangos sound like a good idea for smoothie, I used to eat mango sorbet like crazy! I'll have to try and think of a mango smoothie recipe and try it out - I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi guys,
Just wanted to update my search for banana-free smoothies. Today I made one, and I LOVED it. It was so nice to have fruit again.
I used crushed ice, fresh mango, frozen peaches, strawberries and blueberries and a bit of orange juice concentrate.
Mmm, it was so yummy, I just drank it all down! I am hoping it won't make my tummy mad, but I made sure to use mostly the mango and peaces so I hope it's all safe. If so, I will be able to have fruit more often.. though I dunno how much it really counts for..
Yay!

good luck- another choice is to put silken tofu in... I use that a lot with berries and (I can have banana) banana.. but I might try mango instead next time, I love them- just hard to find ripe ones around here this time of year. anyone know a good source for frozen mango?

you can also use soy yoghurt to make smoothies thicker, though they aren't really fruit smoothies, then, I suppose.

Why not try tinned peaches or pears- they'd puree well and they make really fruity smoothies.
